Cross Country Wins Season Opening Cougar Challenge
Women's Cross Country - Sun, Aug. 28, 2016

The Life U Cross Country team got off to a great start on Friday at their season-opening meet in Tallahassee, Florida at the Cougar Challenge. With three ladies finishing in the top five overall, the Running Eagles took home first place as a team!

Both Elizabeth Skipper and Cora Atkinson set the pace for the entire race, finishing first and second respectively. Skipper crossed the line in 21:55.58, and Atkinson came home 8 seconds later in 22:03.69.

Victoria Favela-Parra was not far behind, finishing in fifth place with a time of 23:01.09.

Tatiana Gonzalez was next for the Running Eagles, clocking a time of 23:58.61 for tenth place.

Nylah Brown was the last of the Life U runners to score team points as she placed fourteenth with a mark of 24:16.01.

Even though team points were decided, the remaining Life U runners knew they could still help the team by displacing runners from other teams. A half a second after Brown finished, Angerika Colbert took home fifteenth place at 24:16.58, displacing 11 runners behind her; and Mariana Sanchez ran a 27:26.27 to displace another five placers from other teams. Marialejandra Julia and Hanne Polden also ran strong for Life U, taking home 29th and 35th place, respectively.

In the end, after adding up the placements of our first five runners, a fantastic team total of 32 placed Life U on the top of the podium. It was a great start to the season, and something to build on as they look ahead to their next event on September 10th in Bowling Green, KY for the Mid-South Conference Preview Meet.
