LIFE High School Rugby Camp Sold Out
Marietta GA - High school students from all over the nation are clamoring to attend Life University s rugby camp July 13-16 on the Marietta campus. The number of participants is already maxed out with 60 high school students from 10 different states.
The camp is designed for incoming high school freshmen through graduating seniors to learn basic skills, position-specific techniques, diet and nutrition, strength and conditioning, and goal setting. On the final day, the camp will conclude with a competitive match between the participants.
Having 60 of the leading high school athletes from around the country visiting our campus for a week of training and development is a winning combination for all involved, said Director of Life Rugby Dan Payne.
The camps coaching staff includes Payne, Scott Lawrence, Matt Sherman and current Life Rugby players. The special guest lecturers are Todd Clever, captain of the U.S. Rugby National Team and Seth Payne, a former NFL player.
There are 23 rugby teams in the Georgia High School Rugby Association, and there will be eight players from Marietta in attendance.
The younger players begin playing, the more skilled and developed they'll be as they reach their undergraduate institutions, said Payne. We have seen a direct tie-in with the growth of the sport at the high school level and those who are choosing their undergraduate colleges with rugby in mind. We have 15 incoming freshmen this year as part of our recruiting class. It's safe to say that each of them started looking at Life University as an option because of our rugby program and the level at which they can train and compete.
This is the first rugby summer camp hosted by Life University at this level, which is expected to be an annual event for years to come.

BOULDER, Colo. - Following the USA Rugby Men's Collegiate All-Star Championships this weekend, selectors announced their list of Collegiate All-Americans and Honorable Mentions.
"With a pool of approximately 15,000 mens collegiate players across the U.S., the Collegiate All-American selectors and coaches spent nearly nine months on player identification, fitness testing, standards implementation and monitoring to narrow the list to 37 All-Americans and 29 Honorable Mentions, said All-American Coach Alex Magleby.
The All American Team is made up of the nations best collegiate rugby players who are picked annually on the basis of performance over the course of the domestic collegiate rugby season, the National Collegiate Championships, and the Collegiate National All-Star Championship. Read More Click Here
Barber chose Life, earns NAIA honor
Marietta, GA - Life has been good for LaAbrez (Tay) Barber, both academically and athletically.
The 6-foot-1 senior point guard recently received his business degree from the university for his work in the classroom, while his exploits on the court also garnered high praise.
Barber, who led the Running Eagles to a 21-12 overall record after averaging a team-leading 19.0 points and 4.39 assists per game, was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) second-team all-American for the 2009-10 season. As a starter in all but one of Life's 31 games, he also shot 83 percent from the free-throw line and 45 percent from the floor while averaging 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per contest.
